The Celebration Venue

This year’s celebration will be held at Mahakaruna Buddhist Center located in historic downtown Petaluma, California. Kadam Ace Remas began teaching Dharma in Petaluma in 2000 as a branch of Saraha Center in San Fransisco. In the spring of 2005, Venerable Geshe-la made Mahakaruna an independent center. A dedicated core of Kadampa practitioners are teaching Dharma in towns north of San Francisco to the Oregon border and east to Reno, Nevada.

The name of our center, Mahakaruna, means “Great Compassion”, and we are committed to manifesting great compassion and providing a special atmosphere of peace, warmth and harmony. We cherish this opportunity to share the peace our practice fosters with everyone who attends the California Dharma Celebration.

We warmly welcome you to Sonoma County in northern California. Our area is rich with the beauty of redwood groves, vineyards, oak forests and rugged seashores. Petaluma is where urban meets rural life, located 45 miles north of San Francisco.

Celebration Shop

We are preparing a lovely space for our Celebration Shop and cafe. Please park in the lot by 616 Petaluma Blvd (Park Hill Medical Center). This is the location of our Celebration shop. Registration, parking, the Celebration cafe and toilet facilities will be located here. It is a short walk to Mahakaruna Center meditation room where we will have the Celebration sessions. Everyone will need to park at the Celebration Shop, 616 Petaluma Blvd and register here before going to the Center.

Transportation

Airlines: Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa (STS) is about 20 minutes from Petaluma. Oakland Airport (OAK) is about one hour from Petaluma. Southwest Airlines has several flights each day to these airports. The flights from Los Angeles are about an hour and a half.

Airport Shuttle: http://airportexpressinc.com $62 round trip (internet discount) or $32 one way from Oakland Airport or Santa Rosa Airport to the Petaluma Fairgrounds. If you are staying at the Quality Inn, a hotel van is available Friday afternoon for the short trip from the fairgrounds to hotel; please inquire when you book the hotel. Driving:   From Los Angeles 413 miles one way. It is about an eight hour drive via interstate 5.
